Ritorna per un breve periodo in Australia nel 2017 per prendere parte per la seconda volta agli ‘Opera in the Alps’ e ‘Opera in the Market’ e attraverso WIAV ha partecipa a vari festival di musica in Galles e nel Regno Unito, incluso il Llangollen Festival dove ha cantato il brano di Christopher Tin, vincitore del Grammy Award ‘Calling All Dawns’ con la Welsh National Opera Orchestra.
In aprile 2017 Shanul riceve i premi ‘Canto Lirico’ e ‘2017 Rossini International’ al ‘Concorso Internazionale Musicale Città di Pesaro’ (CIMP), concorso annuale pesarese. Ha debuttato in Italia nel ruolo di Ernesto nel Don Pasquale di Donizetti e ha partecipato a numerosi concerti gala nello stesso anno. Shanul torna in Australia nel Gennaio 2018 per un tour di quattro mesi de Il Barbiere di Siviglia di Rossini nel ruolo del Conte d’Almaviva. Riprende il ruolo nel Maggio 2018 al Teatro del Giglio di Lucca mentre in Agosto debutta come Il Conte di Libenskof ne Il Viaggio a Reims di Rossini al prestigioso Rossini Opera Festival a Pesaro. A Settembre (rappresentando lo stesso festival pesarese) debutta alla Norwegian National Opera di Oslo e debutta come tenore solista nello Stabat Mater rossiniano al LaVerdi di Milano sotto la direzione di Claus Peter Flor.
Attualmente è parte del Moffatt-Oxenbould Young Artists Programme di Opera Australia, riprenderà il ruolo de Il Conte di Libenskof a Melbourne, Mosca, Sydney partecipando anche alle produzioni di Ghost Sonata (Sydney e Melbourne), Der Narr in Berg (Sydney) e la serie di concerti Great Opera Hits a Sydney.
Born in India, Shanul SHARMA studied Information Technology in Australia.
After experiencing various musical genres, he discovers the Opera environment and in 2012 he relocates to Melbourne to privately commence his classical singing studies at the Ciccone Academy. In June 2017 he obtained a Masters in Advanced Vocal Studies from the Wales International Academy of Voice (WIAV) under the directorship of renowned Welsh tenor Mr.Dennis O’Neill.
Shanul made his operatic debut as ‘Don Ramiro’ in Rossini’s La Cenerentola for Opera Australia’s Victorian schools tour in 2014 and was later engaged to sing the titular role of Massenet’s Werther with Lyric Opera of Melbourne. In 2015 Shanul joined Marina Prior, Cheryl Barker and John Bolton-Wood for gala concerts around Australia and took part in Opera Australia’s season of Verdi’s Aida on Sydney Harbour. He was also offered a coaching residency at Opera Australia with Joshua Hecht during this time. 2016 saw Shanul feature at gala concerts alongside Greta Bradman, David Hobson and Teddy Tahu Rhodes while also starring in ‘Canzoni Di Mio Padre’ (a selection of Neapolitan, Roman and Italian songs) at the Melbourne Recital Centre. He also made his oratorio debut as the tenor soloist/Obadiah in Mendelssohn’s Elijah and sang the role of ‘Florville’ in Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino with Lyric Opera of Melbourne. During this time, with assistance from the Ian Potter Cultural Trust, Ars Musica Australis and the Australian Cultural Fund Shanul successfully crowdfunded more than A$50,000 in total to complete a Masters at the Wales International Academy of Voice and relocated to Cardiff, UK until July 2017.
Shanul briefly returned to Australia in early 2017 to take part in his second ‘Opera in the Alps’ and ‘Opera in the Market’ gala concerts and through WIAV he featured at various music festivals in Wales and the UK including the 2017 Llangollen Festival for Christopher Tin’s Grammy Award winning composition ‘Calling All Dawns’ with the Welsh National Opera orchestra.
In April 2017 Shanul was awarded the ‘Canto Lirico’ and ‘2017 Rossini International’ awards at the ‘Concorso Internazionale Musicale Citta di Pesaro’ (CIMP), an annual competition held in Pesaro, Italy to celebrate the works of the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini.
He also made his Italian debut as ‘Ernesto’ in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale in September that year and appeared in concerts and galas in northern Italy for the remainder of 2017.
Shanul returned to Australia in January 2018 for a four month extensive tour of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia as Il Conte d’Almaviva. He reprised the role in May 2018 at Teatro del Giglio in Lucca, Italy while in August 2018 he debuted as ‘Il Conte di Libenskof’ in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims at the prestigious Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) in Pesaro, Italy. In September (representing ROF) he made his recital debut at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo while also debuting as the tenor soloist in Rossini’s Stabat Mater at LaVerdi in Milan under the baton of Claus Peter Flor in October 2018.
Currently a part of Opera Australia’s Moffatt-Oxenbould Young Artist Programme, Shanul will be reprising the role of Il Conte di Libenskof in Melbourne, Moscow and Sydney in 2019 while also appearing as the Student in Reimann’s Ghost Sonata (Sydney and Melbourne), Der Narr in Berg (Sydney) and the Great Opera Hits concert series (Sydney).
